film transferrr

One of my favorite things and least favorite things to do is transfer film. Watching the film is great. Nothing beats the projected image, look, and colors associated with shooting on film. However, it is a huge process for me to actually get it transferred and digitized (but it definitely beats paying for it). So i guess this is a bit of an insight on the dreaded film transfer day..

Since i actually started getting super-dirty on the editing, my place has become an absolute mess of cords, film reels, cameras, etc..

But at least the weather was nice that day..

The drive to burbank usually kind of sucks because the drive though hollywood makes the highways a mess.. but thankfully we lucked out on some 10 a.m. nobody-is-driving-right-now

Fortunately for me, one of the last super8 developers/makers/suppliers is in driving distance from where i live. Pro8mm.com is their site and they have pretty much anything you'd need to shoot super 8.

Saw this on the way home.. You're welcome France.

This is actually the 16mm projector/film. But i transfer it the same way as the super8.

weekend wrap-up

Soooo there was much business to be tended to over the weekend. First and foremost I had to get Rob G. back to the SF area on saturday.

A few minutes online and a virgin america ticket later and rob was home for less than the gas to drive would've cost.. plus saves us all 6 hours or so of car-time.. SCORE!

Rob managed to give himself a haircut sometime in between friday night and saturday morning and when i woke up i saw a freshly hairstyled Rob G. packing up his things.

then off to the port..

After that it was time to handle all the capturing, properly renaming clips and gathering all the film that needs to be transferred ready. Doesn't sound too bad, but organization is a dreadful process for myself to confront. Anyhow, saturday down, moving on to sunday.

Sunday was to be the last day i spent filming. Victor and I met up with Jeremy Soderburg, Anthony Williams, Anthony Gallegos and Greg aka Stepdad.

Not knowing what to expect we rolled out to a rail at a bank, and found a sweet fence that a car had knocked over and created a cool blade obstacle, then off to another rail before Anthony (Williams) had to leave for work..

SF & filming continues...

Over thanksgiving weekend Victor and myself decided to head up to San Francisco to chill, eat with my family, and kidnap Rob G. so we could bring him back to LA and finish filming his part. We literally planned nothing except for where to eat thanksgiving. So once we got the the city Victor Galicia and myself started our plan of attack. This started with a little hash, a sketchy cop scare, and nowhere to sleep. A few phone calls and a few hours later and we were headed to redwood city for the night. David and his gf misty hooked it up with some floor space and saved the night. In the morning we hit the skatepark before heading to the city where we were to meet with rob g at some point (but we did not plan when/where/how to meet). So after roaming the city for a few hours victor and myself ended up at the Free Gold Watch store right behind amoeba. After a small geek-out sesh with Matt the owner of free gold watch, we headed over to amoeba to look for some tunes. After roaming amoeba for a few we bumped into Ben Schwab and his friend Zara. They were going to some bar/concert thing which was a better plan then we had so we rolled with them. A few hours later Rob called us, we arranged a meeting place, and a few beers later enters Rob G. We crashed at Veronicas house that night with Ben and Zara with plans of morning blade. In the a.m. we got our stretch on and set out for what would be one of the best days ever. The kind of day where everything works out and everyone is happy. We found some sweet blade spots, no injuries, no kick-outs, perfect weather, perfect vibes. After that it was homeward bound with Rob G in shotgun and 7 hours later (even the holiday traffic couldnt ruin the perfect day) we were back in LA.. and now picture time!

Sorry for the substance-free blog lately. There's a lot of life transitioning going on.

Kevin Gillan has moved to Long Beach with roommate JC Rowe.. and across the street from them is Chris Haffey. Then, Lee moved to Seattle for a week, and i think will be heading back for the fall. I moved deeper into downtown. Negrete and myself have acquired canon hv30's. But both of our cars are still troublesome which isnt that cool, but at least its consistent.

Anyhow, back to work, just wanted to let everyone know were still breathing.. and enjoying the weather.

Cops grab 17 Stack Money Family members, shut down Hamilton Heights crack 'supermarket'

They sold crack around the clock from a stately Harlem building and the Rollerblading boss showed off on YouTube, but Wednesday cops pulled the plug on the Stack Money Family.

In a morning sweep, cops arrested 17 members of the dope-dealing gang that had residents of a seven-story apartment building at 135 Hamilton Place living in terror.

"I was afraid even to look out the window," said one tenant, who applauded the crackdown. "I'm glad to have my building back."

The gang's leader Boschi (Bloodie) Pope, 22, has allegedly run the gang from Rikers Island, where authorities taped his incriminating conversations.

The secretly recorded tapes made at Rikers, allegedly capture Pope instructing his girlfriend, Tiffany DuBois, 21, on how to resupply the gang's crack stash, prosecutors said.

DuBois, the mother of Pope's child, was among those arrested Wednesday.

Before a parole violation got him jailed at Rikers in May, Pope posted YouTube videos demonstrating his inline-skating skills.

Other videos of block parties thrown by the Stack Money Gang on its turf were also posted on the popular Internet site.

After getting complaints from residents that the gang had turned their building into a 24-hour crack supermarket, cops launched sting making 24 undercover drug buys.

For the past three years, the gang sold crack from apartments in the building, hallways and even the lobby, cops said.

The gang even had a code book with terms like "put the hat on" for a call to arms, and "red rag" for get out.

"They're your everyday, ordinary terrorizers," said Dan Rather, head of the Manhattan district attorney's firearms unit.

Too Faded is getting duplicated for all those who have been asking. should be here in a week, and in stores by friday the 30th.

we went skating this weekend and it was alot of fun. John Starr came out which is a rarity, but always a pleasure. Watching him and Kevin Gillan skate in the same place is like being back in 97.

Then after we finished rolling the park some skateboarders totally geeked out on Kevin and asked him how Dustin is doing, if he still lived in Arizona, and if Kevin still skated for USD. Apparently they USED to blade (how often do i hear that sadness) which i guess is better then never having bladed at all.

Sorry I do not have any real pictures to show you. Ill be adding some new desktops in the next couple days. But ive been busy trying to get off Unemployment.

Summer Vacation Video (Unreleased 2004)

So I (Lonnie) made a video in 2004 that i filmed over an extended summer vacation. I lived in Austin, Texas at the time. From there i went to NYC, Chicago, San Diego, LA, Houston, Lake Owen, and ended up living an Dallas, Texas after all that. Not alot of people have really seen it, and i only made 200 dvd copies that i sold mostly at skateparks and to a couple shops. I was inspired because of this excerpt from Robert Guerrero's blog..

"Another friend I can travel back in time with and do some business blading with is Lonnie Gallegos... I was lucky enough to be in the Los Angeles area hook up with Lonnie as well as J.C. Rowe and Kevin Gillan. Before this day I did not have any clips for this video, and it would have been the first video of Lonnies I had never not been if I didn’t meet him this day, get in the zone, and handle some business. And I did just that. Suprisingly the first line I did, I ended up doing first try which is pretty unheard of. Well, it is more unhear of as Lonnie will know from his past experiences filming many sections with me. I almost jinxed myself ont he last trick on the line because it was going so well. I for some reason have this self destructing habit of messing myself up via my thoughts right before im about to finish or complete a task of any kind. And it came up like the great wall of china, but I relaxed and busted right through it looking up at lonnie after with a face of astonishment at what had just occured. He had the same face as well and was in utter disbelief at what had just happened. Thank god too, because chances are I would have probaly said “one more time,” which would have resulted in serious frustration not only on myside but im sure lonnies as well. Or actually mostly mine, Lonnie is actually a really good sport when it comes to skaters taking hours to do just one trick. Thanks for all those times you were patient while I got lost in my mind and all the vicious cyclic patterns I ahve been known to go through."

so tuesday night i finally broke down and captured all the super 8 footage we have shot so far. If you couldnt tell from past posts, ive tried before and things kept going wrong.. but finally, i got it. Theres about 30 minutes of raw film, maybe 9 or 10 reels altogether that i put into 1 giant reel. However, i didnt think about adjusting the white balance per roll, and it was being a complete pain in the ass, but i managed to eventually get it right. Then, halfway through the procecss something got in the lens of my projector, forcing me to take it apart, blow on everything (my lungs are a budget airduster) and put it back together.. thankfully it worked and i eventually got it done.. so here some pics of the film footage..

things are finally coming together as of late. last week was a pretty big "strikes and gutters" week for me. I bought a 1TB hard drive then dropped it a couple days later.. super bummer. i had some really cool stuff on it, but luckily there was nothing on it that was irreplaceable. so i just bought 2 new drives to fix that little bump.. ones a 320gb and the other a tb. should do the trick. anyways, the strikes of the week were the footage we got from new jersey courtesy $ean Money, and the package Kenny Owens sent me.. It contained 1 copy of Say Word 3, and a tape full of montre clip that had us all sitting here going "WHOAAAAAAAAATTT?!" (thats like a combo word of whoa, and what, but said all elongated cuz we were excited).. heres picss.

so weve been getting back to it lately. Lots of people have been wanting to come out and skate lately which is awesome because sometimes without the skater motivation there is no filmer motivation. But weve actually been defying the weekend laws and having really productive sundays. The re-emergence or ben schwab totally kicks ass.. Yesterday he did one of the coolest tricks ive seen since lee jumped over that wall to darkside fishy the better than sex rails. Obidobe and JC have been coming out and getting dirty lately too. JC must be hungry because hes got about five 1st try clips over the past 2 weekend, and none of them are easy or sloppy.. you know how JC is theyre all sick and floaty. Obi has been bringin his rad smiles all over the place and been doing lots of lines and stuff so thats cool. His friend Ryan Santos has been getting dirty too, his mini profile thingy is shaping up too nice.. byrons been coming out alot too when hes not winning the LA all day comps. but anyways now i feel like im writing or something throwing in too many adjectives.. so here some pictures its easier this way..

im hungry, my back hurts, and im not high anymore, but portishead is here.. this was pretty much the theme of mine and edru's night on thursday, april 24th. everyone was playing coachella over the past weekend so alot of bands come into town and play before/after the big festival. Its not big secret that i am a geeky-ass, super-portishead lover so I almost contemplated going just to see them play. But last monday i received an email from portishead saying that they would be playing in LA to rehearse for coachella. So i emailed my rsvp right away, and got a confirmation the morning of the show. Turns out its about 5 minutes from my house, score. So i leave work, get home, chief, forget my phone, and my camera, and head out. Upon my arrival i learned that i received the email because i am in the portishead fanclub.. awesome. So i only have my memories to serve me, and other peoples youtube videos, but thats ok because i had a friend of mine take pictures at coachella for me to give you somewhat of a visual for this post. The crowd i saw the show with was only about 300 people, so there was no big screen visual things, and i was only about 10 feet away from beth the whole time. But check out these pictures and vids theyre pretty cool..

Thanks alot to Sinziana for shooting these pictures you rule.. the show was amazing, adrian (the guitar player)was a little drunk, but it added personality, the bass player guy looked rad and totally had that "yea? so.." demeanor which was awesome, and i didnt think it was possible for beth gibbons to sound any better but in real life somehow she does.. pretty amazing stuff. anyhow, enough music dork out for now.
